The Launching of the Tangier Appeal

Senior officials participated in a roundtable discussion entitled “The African Union in the Light of the Issue of the Moroccan Sahara” held on November 4, 2022 during the 14th edition of the MEDays International Forum in Tangier. During this Roundtable, participants stressed the importance of respecting the principles of international law, sovereignty and independence of African states to promote a united continent and free from divisive ideologies.

The holding of this Roundtable was instrumental in the creation of the Tangier Appeal, which played a key role in the formation of the “contact group. Indeed, the signatories of this appeal, including former Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers, expressed their conviction that the illegitimate presence of the pseudo-“sadr” in the African Union was a historical anomaly that needed to be corrected. They stressed the importance of putting an end to this unacceptable situation and called for concrete actions to achieve this.
